New Article on VR Simulations of Bionic Vision

May 24, 2022

The bionic vision lab performed two virtual reality tasks to study the effects of various parameters on simulated prosthetic vision. This specific study focused on an epiretinal implant, the only type of visual prosthetic that is commercially available, and sought to understand how the neuroanatomy of the eye may affect behavioral performance. The study is also the first to present definitive evidence for a difference between desktop monitors and virtual reality headsets for studying prosthetic vision, especially when considering a room scale task like wayfinding.
